In the Disney movie, The Lion King, Simba is a young lion who knows he could be king some day -- but getting there is a very scary prospect. After all, hyenas want to eat him, his uncle wants him dead, and he's got to live up to his father's legacy. Eventually, Simba learns that he can overcome his fears -- and it's something he does with the love of his family and friends.
In this simple, kid-friendly ritual, you can create a talisman charged with love and self-confidence to help a child get past their own fears. Whether it's first-day-of-school jitters, stage fright, or just a nonspecific fear that Something Really Bad might happen, you can empower your young one with the Lion King Kid's Talisman. Best of all, your child can do this rite with you, which makes it all the more effective. Before beginning, make sure that you discuss your child's fear with him or her. If there's a chance he's in real, physical danger, you'll need to take other steps in addition to making a talisman. Schoolyard bullies should be brought to the attention of teachers and principals. If your child is afraid of an adult, you may need to contact local law enforcement. Use your best judgment, and once you've established that your child is physically safe, you can begin working on the talisman. You'll need the following items on hand before you begin:- A tiger's eye stone (to represent the lion, the eptiome of courage - if another animal seems more appropriate for your child's personally, use a different stone accordingly)
- Some jeweler's wire
- Needlenose pliers
- A cord or chain to wear around the neck
- A pink candle for self confidence
- A purple candle for the respect of others
